How to Download a Compulife
Mid-Month Update From the Internet
Please print this instruction page, and
have it next to you when you do a mid-month download/update from the
Internet.
Introduction
Those receiving Compulife's monthly updates can use the Internet to
keep their rate information even more current and up-to-date. Obtaining
the Internet Mid-Month Update is a simple two step process:
1. Download the UPDATE.CMP file(s) from the Compulife website.
2. Start the Compulife program to
decompress the UPDATE.CMP file(s).
Step 1 - Go to
compulife.com or compulife.cc
Enter the address www.compulife.com
or www.compulife.cc into your
Internet web browser. At the Compulife web site menu, click on the first
choice next to the U.S. flag. This will take you to the Internet Update
Service for U.S. subscribers.
The first screen which follows is a Warning to those who are not
Compulife subscribers. You can proceed to the next screen by clicking
"Click here to Continue" at the bottom right corner.
This will take you to the Introduction screen which explains the
service. Once again, click "Click here to Continue" to go the Internet
Update bulletin.
Once you are at the Internet Update
bulletin please do the following:
1. Add the bulletin to your
favorites list. Most web browsers have a bookmark system which remembers
your favourite Internet web pages. For example, using Internet Explorer,
go to the top line of your browser and click on "Favorites" and then click
on "Add to Favorites", then click on the OK button.
In the future, you do not need to first go to the Compulife web menu,
or through the warning and introduction screens. Simply go to your
favorites button, and look for "Compulife U.S. Mid-month Update. This will
take you directly to the bulletin.
Because the Update News bulletin contains no graphics, it loads
instantly.
Important: The date
and time the bulletin was last changed appears at the top of the bulletin.
This lets you know if a change has taken place since you last visited.
Also, the date of each change entered into the bulletin is listed with the
changed item. This way you can tell what has happened since you last did a
mid-month update.
2. Print the bulletin. This
will give you the details of the changes which are included in the "UPDATE.CMP"
file(s) which you will be able to download. Once you have downloaded the
file(s) you will need to run the Compulife program to decompress those
files.
3. The update files are found
at the end of the bulletin. You can scroll down to the bottom to locate
the files, or you can click on the top line of the bulletin to go directly
to the bottom of the screen where you will find the Internet Update file(s).
4. Click on UPDATE1.CMP to
download the file. Your browser will ask if you want to save this file to
disk or open the file from its location.
Important: Save this
file to Disk
The browser will then produce a "Save As" window. Just below the title
"Save As", the window will say "Save in". Next to the "Save in" prompt,
there is a white space that will offer the location you want to save the
update file.
Important: Save the
file to the COMPLIFE folder
In the white space next to the words "Save in", it will indicate the
place on your computer where the program wants to place the update file.
If it does not say "COMPLIFE" in that white space, then click the little
grey down button next to whatever is in the white space.
Clicking the grey button will display a list of places on your computer
where you can save the file. You need to locate the hard disk drive where
you have placed Compulife on your computer. Click on the hard disk.
A list of folders will now be displayed in the "Save As" window. Locate
the COMPLIFE folder and double click on that folder. It should now say
"Save in COMPLIFE".
Important: Click on
the Save button
Warning: Do not change
the name of the file.
NOTE: If you need UPDATE.CMP to update other installations of Compulife
in your office, or the computer you use for the Internet is not the same
one that contains Compulife, then copy the file to a diskette or to the
other computers before running Compulife.
Repeat the above process for the remaining UPDATE.CMP files.
Step 2 - Decompressing
the UPDATE.CMP File(s)
After you have successfully downloaded the UPDATE.CMP file(s) into your
Compulife folder, you must start the Compulife program from scratch. The
program will recognize the existence of the UPDATE.CMP file(s) and ask if
you wish to process them. Answer Y for yes. Once you have executed the
decompression of the file(s), your program is updated and ready to go.
Important: If the
program does not tell you it has the update files when it starts, then the
update has not been successful and you need to call Compulife.
